This was around the time of the construction of the Ohio & Erie Canal. The canal was planned to be built through Dove’s wheat field. As the landowner, Dove was not happy about this and was planning to sue the state. However, a canal worker convinced him to take a different course of action. Instead of taking him to court, the worker convinced him that he would benefit from laying out a town along the canal. During the first weekend of every year in September, the people of Canal Winchester host a Labor Day Festival. After that, during the holidays, they have their annual “Christmas In The Village” festival, which is known for its food, choirs, and horse-drawn buggy rides.
